15-08-31 - The rigours of camping.

D358-057
15-08-31 - Alpine welcoming committee.
On our walks we were nearly always able to hear the
jingle of cowbells.
D358-074
15-08-31 - Balcony views. Turn right for Mayrhofen
Our route back to the hotel took us along a forest path on the
side of the Ziller valley.
Speculation was that it might have been an old rail line,
forest road, or a useful route in times of flood. We heard the
term "balcony" applied to walking paths on the side of a slope
paralleling the edge of a valley.
15-08-31 Mayrhofen - Day3, Finkenberg Almbahn

At least, until the flight home.
15-09-05 Mayrhofen - Day8 Tegernsee - Day1
Tegernsee Day2, Bauer in der Au.
Bauer in der Au is the title, in the HF literature, of today's ramble. The
name appears to mean Farmer in the dell. After considerable web searching,
found that the term brings up an actual Tegernsee tourist guesthouse, the
proprietor's zoning troubles with the municipality, and also information that
the term au is Bavarian or Austrian dialect for meadow. Au is not
listed in some major, on-line, German-to-English dictionaries.
Anyone recall the nursery rhyme?
The farmer in the dell, (2x)
Hi-ho the dairy-oh,
The farmer in the dell.
The farmer takes a wife, (2x)
Hi-ho ... (etc.)
The wife takes the cat, ...
... cat ... mouse ... cheese ... (each verse, someone is pointed out in
succession.)
The cheese stands alone ...
I think this last is the "gotcha" line. The person selected is either "out" or voted into public office. We voted ourselves into carrying on with the ramble, despite misty, drizzly weather. Walking is quite feasible under these conditions, provided you have suitable raingear and stick to lower altitudes.
Tegernsee Day3, Balcony Route

Economics under Chancellor Konrad Adenauer.

15-09-08 - Up.
D366-034
15-09-08 - Hang-glider chapel.
That may be Germany's Zugspitze behind the light standard, almost hidden in
cloud. Check out DR's 1950's show including Zugspitze cog
railway pictures.
Zweibruecken. Germany, 1950's
D366-051
15-09-08 - Merle is content with the view.
Of Tegernsee.
D366-055
15-09-08 - Flight preparations.
She's waiting (right) till the wind picks up.
D366-064
15-09-08 - Liftoff.
The wind is blowing uphill. They take a running leap, then tuck
up legs to avoid the tree-tops.
A second, blue para-sail is ahead, just above the yellow one.
Someone said they saw one of
the gliders land on a green area below.
D366-089
15-09-08 - Lunch: a bit over the top.
Who was the guilty party?
D366-095
15-09-08 - Bauern omlette for DR.
A real man-of-the-people, authentic, salt-of-the-earth, farmery
kind of dude. Oh yes, and a radler to wash it down.
The name "radler" means "cyclist" and was first applied to a drink by a
Bavarian innkeeper whose establishment was overwhelmed one day by cyclists.
Having limited beer, and an overstock of lemon soda in the basement, he mixed
beer and soda 50-50, with the claim that they wouldn't fall off their bikes
on the rest of the ride. The new drink immediately caught on.
Unfortunately, ready-mix radler can be hard-to-find in North America. And
waiters, typically, don't know what you mean by shandy. (That's my glass,
discreetly placed off-camera at the right of the pic.)
D275-150
12-09-11 - The gods onside, or beer INSIDE?
And remember, guys, One swallow does not a summer make. So drink up.

Gletcher Letcher?
