D305-080
14-02-14 - DR, right at home in the Roman Empire I've often thought that the story of Rome marks the first point in history that seems "modern" by modern standards. Many of the familiar features of our own time become visible. Massive administration and indusry. Real politics with battling democrats and oligarchs. Urban congestion, big-city streetlife. Everything prior seems archaic, parochial.
